Okay, going through old silver today, trying to catalog some stuff. I have an old sterling makeup compact. Only mark is sterling and then a B in a six sided box. I cannot track this symbol down. Anyone ever seen this one? Aging it might be impossible! Kind of hard to figure a value if I can't guess its age!
Also have a sterling thimble in a jar and what appears to be a sterling Tea thingy. I have the mark from the silver tea thingy below. Just says sterling silver, made in USA, in the middle the letters S.C.S.C. and the what looks like the digits 10, but sideways and tiny. Any ideas.
I tried to take a pic of the thimble mark, but wayyy too small for me to get a clear shot.
Thansk Again!

Your tea thingy I think is S.C.& Co !! Stephen Castans mark !! Look and see if that isn`t a tiny o on the end top ?? He used an old english script (&) mark which looks like an S !! I can`t see it well enough to tell myself !!
-
Upon closer investigation, the Tea thing mark is S.C.S Co. Hmm, not SC&Co. Stephen Castan Silver Co?????
-
You are right it is an S !! Should have blown it up first but computer kept freezing up !! One sit referenced this mark as Schofield silver and I have found many with that mark but,, I have not found exactly what the initials stand for !! Liveauctioneers didn`t have it either,, just the initials !! Two sites that might help you and are great references for American silver are www.925-1000.com and www.silvercollectio n.it.com !! The first has drop down menu`s with additional info !!

Looking like the Tea Infuser (Yup, figured out the name) is figured out. Anyone able to identify the other mark (Sterling followed by a B in a six sided box?

I found a listing where the person describes a B inside a hexagon made by Birks.

But when I searched for Birks marks, I don't see it. Still searching.

Found one by birks but not quite the same shape.

Sorry to keep posting, this mark seems identical. I think it is birks:

You are Rockin Snowflake ;)

LOL! I've done a bit of research in my time. Just not with antiques! I love this, like little mysteries to solve everyday!
-
Birks would make sense. I am located in Canada, they are probably the best know high end jeweler/silver outlet in the country, and always have been. Thanks Snowflake!

I'm in Ontario, hudson. I was thinking I should have clarified it by saying it was a well known Canadian jeweler. I just assumed everyone else has heard of it. Good thing you are in Canada and knew what I was talking about. :)

Just did a lot of scrolling around and have yet to find a silver identification site that shows that mark for Birks. Any I've seen (yup, Canuck too) have always had the name Birks, alone or in conjunction with something else (i.e. Sterling). Don't know where they got the info that leads them to state Birks is the maker. Will keep checking (curious, as even my own engagement ring is Birks) as I'd like to know for sure......if it is another less know mark for them it would be nice to be aware of it.

Found this site which shows a piece with the exact same hallmark. They list it as an early year birks piece.

You could always contact them here:

They even sell some of their vintage jewelry on their site.

That got me thinking. There really isn't any proof. Did a search and could only find this. Unfortunately, the link goes to a page that is no longer there.

I noticed at the bottom of this listing the person thanks someone for helping her with info about the mark:

This is the site of the person who helped. Maybe if you contact her, she might have information about it:
