Last weekend my mother was getting ready to put these two lamps out for a garage sale. She says they belonged to her Great-Aunt and she had them when my mother was a child. Oky Doky..... I rescued two lamps.
BODY: 6" tall / 9" including socket
BASE: 2.5" X 2.5"
STAMP: Victoria Czechoslavakia (green) with crown above.
: 262 also stamped in silver
I was able to find the makers mark on Collectorscirlce.co m which indicates the lamps were made sometime between 1919 and 1945. However, this is all I have been able to find on them. Apparently Google does NOT know everything or I'm lazy. Anywho......
When packed away, several years ago??? they both worked. As long as I can remember, they have worn white shades that looks like possibly of the Wal-Mart-ish variety.
Can anyone tell me a little more about them? Did I rescue something decent or were they headed to the right place? I'm a noob so be gentle. OH, and i obviously not a
photographer either. LOL

Commonly called dresser lamps,, boudoir lamps ect !! You did good rescuing those !! Would have a clip on shade and a cute little fringe !! Look in good condition probably from 30`s or so !! Look like transferware !! Haven`t looked the stamp up yet !!

"Victoria" Schmidt & Co, Stará Role, Czech Republic (Altrohlau, Bohemia, Austria)
"Founded 1883 by Lazarus and Rosenfeld, Ltd. 1885 it was sold to Franz Schmidt. It was the largest factory. The factory’s main concern was commercial production and was not concerned with artistic value. Still though, it produced some high quality pieces. It also manufactured a ceramic called porelite, a substandard version of porcelain. In 1945 it merged with the Altrohlau Porcelain Factories and the EPIAG factories to become a part of Starorolský Porcelán, then Karlovarský Porcelán Stará Role II in 1958."

I told Ginni more than once (when she still cared about her site, back in 2006) that her dating was wrong - shown mark was only used between 1918 and October 1938 (!) as the German army occupied the former Sudetengebiete at that time. In that process, nearly the whole main porcelain production region of Czechoslovakia was occupied and factories like the Victoria works were instantly forced to use a 'Germany' addition. The Victoria factory (due to its location directly next to a major railroad junction) was chosen as main producer of 'special order' items and only a month later started to produce items marked 'Victoria' above the infamous double Sig rune of the Waffen-SS.
And yes, all this took place one year BEFORE German forces marched into Poland (the 'official' start of World War 2).

Thank you for clarifying Chris! I knew that Czechoslovakia has gone through many changes (confirmed by Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Czechoslovakia) but using the same Country name through 3 changes was confusing me...

Good news for BadOrderKing......t hat pair of keep or toss lamps have become real keepers!
