DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT THE VALUE OF A PICASSO REPRINT IN A NUMBERED FRAME BY ILLINOIS MOUDLING COMPANY MIGHT BE WORTH?
-
Hi PattiMae. Welcome to the forums. Would you be able to post a picture? Is there anything written on it?
-
On the back the numbers P469 V3077-781 and handwritten it says The Bullfight Picasso but I looked it up online and it's actually called corridos del toros

I'll keep looking. It must be a series.

I have a few painting I am curious about but no serious resources anywhere near the small town I live in. I inherited a few paintings from my grandmother and a few from my fiances great Aunt I love them personally but I would love to know if they have any value above the love that I have for them. I will take some pictures tomorrow of what I have and post them if I can figure out how to negotiate this site lol Thanks for all your help!

Maybe a page number from an illustrated book? I'm grasping. Tried a search didn't come up with anything. Now I can see the picture it gives a little more to go on.
-
Me neither snowflake. It didn't come up in his el toro art work. I went through it twice.

I have found nothing that indicates this is by Picasso !! The title is La Corrida de Toros !! But not the same as this print !! Arthistoryguide.com has a list of his work but the above title is not same as your print !! Can you find his name on the print face ?? None of his bullfighting paintings are like yours !! Unless I missed one !!

Pablo, Picasso. “Course de Taureaux.” 1901. Private Collection.
You can find information from the link here:
http://blogs.princeton.edu/wri152-3/nbisaria/archives/001898.html
Don't know anything about the print or value yet.
The oil painting was at Sotheby's :

I don't know...this is confusing because when I look it up at other sites it doesn't even resemble the one in the links above.
Still searching.

Well it is always possible that they simply got the name wrong !!
-
What size is this print ?? Original was 22X29 and done in 1979-82 !! Original artwork was from 1927 !! Reprints could be done by any number of companies when copywrite ran out !! So value would be minimal depending on how many reprints were made and by who !!
-
THE WRITING ON THE BACK IS HAND WRITTEN THAT SAYS THE BULLFIGHT PICASSO SO IT COULD BE MISNAMED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER BUT THE NUMBERS I LISTED PREVIOUSLY ARE STAMPED ON
-
WITHOUT A TAPE MEASURE I WOULD GUESS 10x12 IS THE SIZE
-
Is the number on the print ?? Or the dust cover ?? Or the frame ?? So it is just a small print !!
-
THE NUMBERS ARE ON THE DUST COVER ON THE BACK OF THE PRINT AND YES ITS SMALL

Illinois Moulding Company was the precursor to Windsor Art Products !! (Not to be confused with Winsor Art Products which later became Winsor and Newton) They purchased the reproduction rights to many artworks and reprinted them and sold them in their own frames in all sizes !! They also purchased art from lesser known artists with aka signatures) so as to protect their rights as artists using their own name !! They also reproduced art using a method that looked like an authentic piece but was done on a type of cardboard !! They were much like Home Interior is today !! They sold the artwork as well as other items in their frames which is what the number on the dust cover is !! Thats the number of that particular item in their line and has nothing to do with the artwork itself !! They were not trying to fool the public as they were all marked as reproductions !! They just provided quality artwork at reasonable prices in a variety of sizes !! They also had mirrors and other items !! Value on their items is minimal and for your piece probably $10. to $20. !!

You are good, mart!
-
Not really !! Just decided since nothing concrete showed on the artwork I would do a little digging on the frame company !! If you can`t find them one way,, try another !!! Divide and conquer !! LOL
