Hi again folks. Got this at the thrift store and it looks like its missing something but I fugured it was worth a $3 risk. couldnt find it online so I gotta know what this is. bowl has a 5"diameter and is 2" tall (without handles). the bottom pic is a marking underneath that seems to be a stamp but I cant read it. Thanks for any help!!

Can`t see the holder well but it looks like maybe a condiment bowl and would probably have a spoon, fork or tongs possibly for serving that rested across the top rack !! Like an olive bowl with a two pronged olive fork !! Looks like an older piece !!
-
heres a better shot of the holder if this helps

It looks like the stamp says " MFD & PLATED BY" above the Reed and Barton.
I like figuring out the stamps/labels/marks and then hunting things down. I'll let you know if I find something.
Addition:
Am surfing and found this piece: http://www.replacements.com/webquote/RDS1532.htm
click the distorted picture to see what it really looks like.
Reminds me of your piece in that it has supports on the side for a spoon or something. And it has a lid which I keep thinking is missing on yours.
Would be helpful to see a good picture one of the handles- I'd like to see the pattern on them.

I'm thinking a butter dish that would have had a liner to hold a nice home churned lump of butter above a bed of ice. Add a lid and a butter server/knife for a complete unit.
-
Could very well be a butter bowl !! Figure out the pattern and check ebay for a lid, nice plain bowl would be acceptable liner, and a knife and you have a nice complete piece !! Good thinking Rauville !!

Butter bowl makes sense to me, thanks alot for the info!any idea how old it might be? heres the requested handle pic and a lil bigger one of the small stamp, hope someone has better luck reading it than I did

The flower on the handle appears to be a wild rose. I thought dogwood at first glance then realized the petals are not notched.
Reed and Barton had a wild rose pattern in their Harlequin series, but I will say it looks more detailed than your handle.
I haven't skimmed through their other patterns in their Floral series, so it might be there instead.

I looked on ebay and several butter dishes had same as yours for the knife !! Didn`t find yours though also looked at R&B`s site but couldn`t find any vintage patterns !! Isn`t the number on yours 3268 ??

Mart is right on....These were great for entertaining/large events!!!! Still collected!
So many were made that did not go with particular sets but were sold individually as serving items. So...they are harder to try and track down a particular pattern.

Rauville got this one, KC !! Silver has never been my forte` !! Takes someone smarter than me for this stuff !!
-
Oops! Sorry Rauville! My computer page is going so fast today...when I scroll down it is going ninety to nothing....and I missed several replies! My Bad!
Thanks for the heads up Mart!
