I have almost the same cat only mine is arched up in fright. Same coloring, wood, general carving design ect.. I am with whoever said mid 90's art. After really looking mine over I came to the conclusion that while it appeared old it wasn't as old as I first thought.

I used a razor blade to gently clean off the bottom to see the mark and it didn't damage the glaze at all. There still is a white residue left though. I want to remove the paint to see what colors the vase actually is. I'm not sure paint thinner would be a good idea? I also remember when I used to play Warhammer 40k I used to soak my miniatures in brake fluid to remove the paint w/o damaging the pewter or glue. So what are your thoughts?
However we don't use it since my kiddos can seem to stop "breaking" it. I had it repaired last year but then someone too big tired to use it again or it was rocked too hard and the rockers came loos again. I guess its off to the carpenter again *sigh*
